Overview

We are seeking an entrepreneurial lawyer looking to take on a leadership role in managing the complex legal issues Stand Together faces on a daily basis.

 

This Chief Counsel role  for Stand Together will be filled by a solutions-oriented and business-minded attorney with significant counseling experience and the ability to lead a 2 to 3-person team that can form a preferred partnership with internal clients throughout the organization.  The position reports directly to the General Counsel.

 

Your Responsibilities Include

  • Partner with business leaders to understand the risk profile of Stand Together community organizations and provide legal input on  a range of transactional and compliance-related issues
  • Coach, mentor and develop other lawyers and legal teammates focusing on how to contribute the best outcomes for the organization
  • Draft, negotiate, and review contracts on behalf of the organizations
  • Participate in the development of organizational policies, procedures, and programs 
  • Provide staff training and mentoring to in-house clients to continually improve risk awareness and ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Leverage expertise (both internal and external) to get the best results for the organization; consistently seeking and sharing knowledge amongst colleagues and teammates

 

Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization

  • 8-10+ years’ experience with an AmLaw200 firm or in-house with a sophisticated corporate client
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school having graduated near top of class
  • Currently licensed in Virginia or able to waive into Virginia bar
  • Supervisory experience with an emphasis on coaching, mentorship and culture
  • Progressive, broad experience in a range of corporate legal issues, with particular value placed in someone with a transactional background (e.g., contract drafting and negotiation, deal work)
  • Quick study who can learn new areas of law and develop a broad-based counseling practice
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with consistently high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Business-minded problem solver; someone who views their role as partnering with business leaders to find solutions
